Where it all started!
For our first assignment we have to create a blog on something that we are interested in. I chose my nails business "Nails by Rachael" as this is something that I want to succeed in and feel that this assignment can help give it a needed push. So, let's get started!
Anyways, I have been fully qualified for a year and a half now and have been taking clients for a year however I have always done my own nails from I was 15. I have always had an interest in beauty and found that I have a real flare for nails. Now when I look back at sets of nails that I had done on myself many years ago I do wonder what I was thinking when I thought they were unreal, but it does show progress and how I really have improved over the years.
Growing up I was surrounded by hairdressers, makeup artists and beauticians as many of my cousins have pursued these careers so I always was asking them to do my nails or my eyebrows, I eventually started doing these things myself, so I wasn't torturing them (lol) but found that I really liked doing my own nails. I remember being in p7 or first year in secondary school and getting a UV nail lamp and gel polishes for Christmas and begging my cousins to let me do their nails. So, for a while I was quite happy with doing gel on my nails but as I got older, I wanted to do nail extensions as I have always bit my nails, and they were so short that gel was practically non-existent. Now with no exaggeration it would nearly take me a good 5 or 6 hours to do my own nails when I started doing extensions. Now that might seem like a lot but try doing your nails on your non dominant hand and then get back to me. But I would spend all this time doing them for them to pop off in less than a week and it was so frustrating so every now and again I would pester one of my cousins to do them for me again.
Over the years I would go through phases of buying new products and doing my friends and families nails and then the phase would eventually fizzle out because I wasn’t impressed with how they would turn out or how long they took or when they came off, I was never bothered to sit and do them on myself all over again after a few days. So, after so many years of failed attempts at doing my own nails my mum and dad bought me a starter kit and a nail course so that I could properly get into doing nails.
